Two new lost diver location tools unveiled

Two new dive gadgets that make it easier to locate a lost diver have been released onto the market – the Smartfind S10 AIS Beacon and the Fastfind 210 GPS PLB.

The Smartfind S10 AIS Beacon is an innovative manually activated personal safety device which incorporates both AIS (Automatic Identification System) and GPS technology.

The Smartfind S10 is waterproof, buoyant and compact, intended for carriage by divers, crew and anyone who works on or carries out leisure activities on the water.

The Smartfind

When activated the Smartfind S10 transmits a unique alert signal to the vessel the individual has come from and to all AIS enabled equipment within a typical four-mile range, signalling that help is required in a man overboard or lost diver situation.

The Smartfind S10 AIS Beacon is simple to operate, even in a gloved hand, and it is equally simple to switch off when the person in trouble has been successfully retrieved from the water.

The Smartfind S10 also features a built in test facility - battery use is indicated in order to determine whether future carriage or battery replacement is advised. The recommended retail price is £238.95

The Fastfind 210 GPS PLB transmits the two signals simultaneously, one to the subscription free global 406 MHz satellite system, and the other (121.5MHz) is to speed up the local recovery response process. Once activated Fastfind’s signals will continue to transmit for at least 24 hours, at a powerful 5 watt output, the 406 MHz transmission ensures that a call for help gets through whatever the conditions.

The Fastfind

Fastfind also includes a unique SOS LED flash light facility which is manually activated to further assist in speeding up the users recovery during night time rescues.

Fastfind will operate in temperatures down to -20°c and its integral battery has a user storage life of 5 years, so there is no need for constant battery changes and re-charging. The recommended retail price is £269.95.
