Ocean Safety to distribute award winning Odeo Laser Flare in UK

The UK’s largest independent marine safety equipment supplier, Ocean Safety, has been appointed the UK distributor for the Odeo Laser Flare, a powerful laser beam alternative to the traditional red pyrotechnic hand-held distress flare.

The Odeo Flare is similar in size to traditional flares but uses battery powered lasers. It will also ‘burn’ or transmit for a much longer period, around 5 hours at full illumination. The Odeo Flare is visible from all directions simultaneously, and projects over the full hemisphere. Its electronic circuitry is designed for optimum visibility.

Because no pyrotechnics are used, the Odeo Flare is totally safe when switched off, and because it uses high power lithium iron-disulphide cell batteries, it can be safely posted or carried in baggage on flights, as well as on RIBs, small aircraft and all types of vessels.

The Odeo Flare is designed to work in the challenging environments found at sea, are completely waterproof and float if dropped overboard. The flares are safe to carry anywhere, even on aeroplanes. “On this basis Ocean Safety is happy to recommend the Odeo Flare,” said Sales Director Mark Hart. “While the Odeo Flare uses alternative technology to current approved pyrotechnic flares, we believe it is a very effective safety aid. The Odeo Flare has already been recognised in the marine industry for its strengths. At the June Seawork exhibition, the hand-held laser safety flare won both the Innovation Award in the safety product category and was voted overall winner in the Seawork Spirit of Innovation Awards.

Made from salt water resistant materials, the Odeo Flare has a seven year shelf life, and is manufactured in Great Britain.
