Divers can enjoy a snorkeler-free Red Sea

For the first time in several decades divers can enjoy a holiday in the Red Sea without boatloads of snorkelers bobbing at the surface.

The Chamber of Diving and Water Sports (CDWS) has revealed that all Red Sea diving restrictions put in place after the spate of shark attacks have now been lifted. Snorkelling is still restricted.

On account of the popularity of the Red Sea, the waters off places such as Sharm el Sheikh can often be very busy. Divers now have a window opportunity to dive without having to compete with boats full of snorkelers.

Now could be the ideal time to dive the top sites without snorkel boats whizzing overhead!

The official statement from the CDWS reads: “Following continuing safety assessments and a gradual change in restrictions, CDWS is pleased to inform members that all diving activities can continue under the normal safety and standards guidelines applicable before the incidents.

“At this time, restrictions regarding snorkelling remain unchanged. As and when there will be changes to these restrictions, we will send out an announcement.”

Five people were attacked by sharks in the Red Sea earlier this month.
