British freedivers clock another successful year
UK freediving has remained in the international spotlight thanks to another successful year from its top athletes.
At the recent British Freediving AGM, Liv Philip was yet again named UK Female Freediving Champion and Sam Still, former World Champion in static, took the men’s title.
Liv took her title with performances of 5:34 static (pure breathhold), 134m dynamic (lengths in a pool with a fin) and 60m constant weight (depth in open water with a fin).
Sam clocked up impressive results of 6:07 static, 153m dynamic and 63m constant weight. Liv takes this title for the fourth year running.
Furthermore, Liv also took top spot at the pool comp in Gothenburg, Sweden on 19th and 20th November with results of 5:43 static, 134m dynamic and 105m no fins (underwater breaststroke).
With top international athletes, including the most recent women’s World Record claimant, Annelie Pompe (Variable Weight 126m), these results were no mean feat!
Another top British female freediver, Georgina Miller bagged third place with a strong 5:30 static and 113m dynamic, ensuring the British women were more than fairly represented on the rostrum.
No need to hold our breath over whether 2011 will be successful or not then; it looks to be a sure thing!
