British diver hospitalised after incident in Russian lake

A British diver has been hospitalised following an incident during an exploratory dive in a Russian lake.

Martin Robson was diving with an international team of divers in Lake Goluboe. The team is hoping to locate both artefacts and a cave system.

The lake is famous for its blue colour, its year-round 9 degrees Celsius temperature and its emission of hydrogen sulphide in the summer months.

Water flow rate and dissolved gypsum in the connecting river have led some to believe there may well be cavities, or even a cave system, within the lake’s depths.

It is also believed a selection of military hardware, including trucks, may have been dumped in the lake at the end of World War Two.

Mr Robson’s incident comes shortly after a Russian member of the team died after suffering pressure damage to his lungs during a dive.
