Mark's Blog: Oriskany 2011
The plan is in place - next June/July I am going to return to Pensacola to dive the Oriskany once again, this time just after it has celebrated being on the seabed for five years. And I want you to join me.
It has been several years since the Sport Diver roadtrip down the Keys, when 11 readers joined me and contributor Stuart Philpott to dive the Florida Keys wrecks and reefs, and now I want to do a second roadtrip to Pensacola.
The plan will be to spend three days diving the Mighty O, then a further three days diving other offshore and inshore dive sites, as the Pensacola area boasts hundreds of wrecks.
Extras will include an exclusive trip T-shirt, cook-outs with local food, etc, welcome and farewell party, PADI Oriskany Diver Distinctive Specialty certification, and a special backstage tour of the restoration hangar at the Naval Aviation Museum. All in all, it will be one hell of a fun-packed trip.
Dates will be confirmed soon, as will prices, so watch this space for further details. If you are a 'metal head' and want to dive the world's biggest artificial reef, this is the trip to do it on!
