Mark's Blog - Bound for the Maldives
I last visited the Maldives way back in 2000, and with one thing and another, I just haven't got back out there. But now, ten years after my inaugural visit, i am going back, and I have to say I am really looking forward to it.
I enjoy all my assignments (as you'd expect!), but this is like going somewhere I have never been before, especially as I am going to be travelling to areas nowhere near my previous resort base.
My first week will be on a liveaboard, and many people I have spoken to say that this is the optimum way to visit the Maldives and hit the best dive spots, so I am excited to see what that turns up, but then I am also keen to see the two different island resorts and what they have to offer, particularly the one with a 90m plus deep house reef with a shipwreck on it! How perfect is that?
The articles from this trip will appear in Sport Diver magazine later in the year, and of course will also be on this website, so keep an eye out for my reports.
However, before you all start to hate me too much, I have a healthy dose of reality tomorrow, when we head up to Peterborough to test some budget-priced regs in a quarry. At least there isn't six inches of snow on the ground like last year when we were conducting the same tests - let's just say that I wasn't the most popular person with my test team that day!!!
