DOMINO'S BLOG: Presenting to the RMs

This month, I was thrilled to be invited to give a Project AWARE presentation at the Annual PADI Europe, Middle East and Africa Regional Managers Conference held in Bristol, UK. This is going to be a tough crowd, I thought! With their expertise and years of experience and knowledge of the dive industry, I was wondering what I could tell them that they didn’t already know. What information could I share with them that would help them enhance the excellent work that they already do in the field to support PADI Members develop and run successful dive businesses? But then I asked myself the following questions: What motivates them day in and day out to do the work that they do? What is at the heart of the success of the dive industry? The answers were simple: One - a shared passion for scuba diving and the underwater world; two - a clean, healthy ocean. It was going to be simple then. All I needed to do was to talk about the importance of ocean conservation as a successful and powerful marketing and business tool. As a small non-profit organisation of 12 staff working globally to protect the ocean, Project AWARE relies heavily on PADI Professional Members to carry the AWARE flag and turn divers into advocates for ocean protection. How do we do that? In many ways, but one of the most effective is to empower dive professionals to take action and provide them with the tools and resources they need to support ocean conservation in their local communities. By working as a team with PADI Regional Managers and PADI Professional Members around the world, we can secure a brighter future for the ocean and therefore the dive industry. So a big ‘shout out’ to all PADI Regional Managers and PADI Pros for sharing our vision and supporting our mission, one business trip, one PADI certification at a time.
